Who Told You?

WHO TOLD YOU?

“And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked?” — Genesis 3:11

There is a question God asked in the Garden that still confronts us today: “Who told you?” Adam and Eve had lived in the presence of God, knowing His voice and walking in His provision. But then another voice entered the conversation. The serpent questioned what God had said, distorted God’s character, and convinced them to believe something that was never God’s intention for them. The enemy still works the same way. He is the father of lies—he takes a fragment of truth, mixes it with deception, and whispers it into our minds until we begin to question God, ourselves, and our identity.

Who told you that you are not enough?

Who told you that your past disqualifies you?

Who told you that God is finished with you?

Who told you that you will never change?

Who told you that you have to remain bound by what happened to you?

Who told you that because you failed, you are a failure?

The devil wants you to confuse what you have done with who you are. He wants your mistakes to become your identity and your wounds to become your name. But God does not define you by your worst moment. The enemy says, “Guilty.” God says, “Redeemed.” The enemy says, “Rejected.” God says, “Chosen.” The enemy says, “Finished.” God says, “I am not finished with you.”

The enemy’s greatest weapon is not always what he puts in front of you; sometimes it is what he puts inside your head. He wants you rehearsing words God never spoke. He wants you agreeing with accusations heaven never made. He wants you looking at yourself through the lens of shame instead of seeing yourself through the lens of grace. But Jesus said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Freedom begins when we stop asking, “Why do I feel this way?” and start asking, “Who told me this?”

So today, challenge every voice that contradicts the Word of God. Who told you that you cannot? Who told you that you are forgotten? Who told you that your story is over? Who told you that your family cannot be restored? Who told you that your purpose has expired? If God didn’t say it, you don’t have to believe it. If it contradicts His Word, you don’t have to repeat it. If it produces condemnation instead of conviction, stop giving it authority.

The devil may be the father of lies, but God is the Father of truth. And when the enemy asks you to identify yourself by your failures, remind him of your redemption. When he reminds you of where you have been, remind him of who called you. When he tells you what you cannot do, remind yourself of what God has already said. The question is not simply, “What did you hear?” The question is, “Who told you?”

Because every voice deserves to be questioned—but God’s Word deserves to be believed.
