Grief is Sneaky, But God, pt3

Day 3: Grief is Sneaky, But God is Sovereign

Hey family, Adrian checking in for the final day.

We’ve named the ambushes. We’ve faced the disguises. Now we land here: grief is persistent and painful, but it is not sovereign. God is.

Grief wants to rewrite the story. It whispers that this ache is permanent, joy is a memory, God must have stepped away or failed somehow. It sneaks in during quiet nights and loud days, trying to convince me hope is gone for good. But Scripture refuses to let that lie stand.

“Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). Not “might come”—it comes. Romans 8:28 assures us God works all things—even this—for good for those who love Him. Not that the pain feels good, but that He redeems it. Revelation 21:4 paints the ultimate promise: He will wipe every tear, and death, mourning, crying, pain will be no more.

I’ve had days where those verses felt distant, like nice words on a page. But I’ve also had moments—small at first—where joy peeked through: laughing with friends and feeling guilty, then realizing the guilt was grief talking, not truth. Or praying through tears and sensing God’s nearness so strongly it almost hurt. Those glimpses remind me: grief sneaks, but God’s sovereignty doesn’t waver. He’s the Author who writes the last chapter, the Redeemer who turns ashes to beauty (Isaiah 61:3), the Shepherd who walks with us through the valley (Psalm 23:4).

I’m not promising the pain disappears quickly. Some days it still knocks the wind out of me. But I’m learning to anchor in the truth that grief has an expiration date—God’s promises don’t. He remains good. He restores. He stays.

So if today grief is loud, remember: it’s not the boss. God is. And He’s writing a story that ends in joy.

Personal Declarations

  • I declare that God is sovereign over every sneaky move grief makes—nothing catches Him off guard or out of control.
  • Though grief lingers longer than I want, my hope is anchored in Christ, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
  • I trust that God is working even in the unseen places, weaving redemption from what feels ruined (Romans 8:28).
  • Joy will return—not as a replacement, but as a deeper, hard-won gift—because my God is faithful and His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
  • I refuse to let grief have the final say; God’s victory over death and sorrow does.
  • The Lord is near to me in this brokenness; He saves this crushed spirit (Psalm 34:18).
  • One day every tear will be wiped away—until then, I walk with the One who holds the future.

Prayer for Day 3 Sovereign God, when grief whispers lies of forever-pain, endless emptiness, or forgotten hope, speak Your truth louder into my spirit. Silence the deceiver with Your promises. Help me cling to Your Word when feelings scream the opposite. Thank You that You are near to the brokenhearted, that You save the crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Carry what I cannot. Redeem what was stolen. Restore what feels irreparably broken. Turn mourning into dancing, ashes into beauty, in Your perfect timing. Strengthen me to grieve with hope—not as those without it (1 Thessalonians 4:13). All glory, honor, and trust to You alone. In the powerful, redeeming name of Jesus, Amen.

Grief is sneaky, friends. But God… He’s sovereign, faithful, and everything we need.

Keep holding on—He’s holding you tighter. With love and steady hope, — Adrian Saidon
